The Club
- Welcome
to the
Ludwigshafen 1912 Chess Club, a club with great tradition in the so-called
chemical city of Ludwigshafen.
- Our
club is located in the basement of the Kopernikus-Realschule, Leuschnerstrasse 131, 67063 Ludwigshafen. The rooms we occupy used to house
a public bath. We have cleared and renovated them, and have furnished them
in a comfortable style. We have at our disposal a games room, a separate
room with kitchen, an office and of course toilets. As only we have access,
it is completely up to us when we use them. That means on our games
evenings we can play with great gusto. Open tournaments and special events
can also be arranged at convenient times. This all amounts to an extremely
lively club scene.
- Guests are always
welcome. We meet on Tuesdays from 19.00 o’clock, or even better on the
main games evening Friday at 19.30 o’clock and stay/play until the last
moment.
Club Evenings
- Fridays
in our club are very lively. It is the main games evening on which
tournaments are held, and when the members meet to swap stories from the
chess scene and to analyse and prepare for upcoming games.
- At
around 19.30 o’clock, about 30 - 40 players meet in the club, during
the holiday period of course
fewer. The members take it in turns to have kitchen duty, and provide the
others with food and drink at extremely reasonable prices. Tuesday
evenings are not so popular with our members.

- The Members
-
- We
have a membership of per 110 men, women, boys and girls, including an FIDE
master, an international master in chess problems, as well as two authors
of chess books and two chess columnists from the Rheinpfalz and the
Mannheimer Morgen. The great majority of our members are active.
- The
Ludwigshafen 1912 Chess Club has eight teams. Five play in the different
classes of the team championships, one team is involved in the German
distance championship. The senior team is extremely successful, and the
youth team is also regularly fighting for trophies.
- Incidentally,
about 20 hopefuls, boys and girls, are in the youth department and are
coached by experienced players.
